Where Innovation Takes Root

Written by Devon Simpson | Jun 5, 2025 2:30:00 PM

Innovation in agriculture means proving performance where it matters most. In the field. Thats why Lucent Bio’s 2025 field trials are focused on delivering real-world data to validate our expanding portfolio of climate-smart crop nutrition solutions. From Soileos micronutrients to Nutreos seed coatings, and Agreos fertilizer coatings our solutions are designed to deliver measurable outcomes in crop performance, grower ROI and climate-smart agriculture.

Trialing with Purpose

In 2025, Lucent Bio is conducting over 30 field trials across North America, Europe, and China, These trials are focused on capturing site-specific data that supports product validation, regional fit, and application guidance.

“You need to have a story to tell the farmer…trial data is that story,” says William Jiang, Director of Products at Lucent Bio.

Our research teams are evaluating key agronomic metrics such as nutrient uptake, yield response, and product placement. Every datapoint contributes to delivering practical solutions that work across a multitude of crops, soil types, and growing conditions.

Testing Micronutrient Crop Nutrition Solutions

Lucent Bio’s Soileos is known for its climate-smart formulation and soil-feeding release mechanism. As a commercialized circular economy solution, Soileos upcycles plant-based co-products to create bioactivated micronutrient fertilizers. In 2025 our field trials are exploring how different micronutrients perform across key crops and growing conditions.

This included evaluating nutrient availability, crop response, and agronomic fit for elements like copper and boron, which play essential roles in crop development and yield optimization. These trials are helping us better understand how to match micronutrient strategies to specific crop sensitivities and soil profiles.

“Micronutrients are different from NPK. You need to have the right products for the right crops,”  says Jiang, “ These trials help us make sure we’re solving the actual problems growers face”

Furthermore, Soileos offers significant climate-positive benefits. Third party (Viresco Solutions) report findings quantify net green house gas emission reductions by up to 8 tonnes of CO2e per tonne of Soileos applied. Read the report here.

These trials seek to validate which micronutrient additions offer valuable agricultural and financial returns for targeted crops and soils, leading to sensible performance and cost recommendations for growers.

Delivering Return On Investment and Climate Value

While soil health and sustainability are integral to Lucent Bio’s mission, return on investment remains the most important factor for adoption.

“Farmers care about ROI,” says Jiang, if we can show that our products deliver value per acre, everything else follows.”

Each trial is designed to reflect commercial realities. We test practical rates and evaluate cost-per-acre performance, ensuring recommendations make sense for growers in terms of both performance and cost. In parallel, we are gathering data on soil organic carbon, microbial interactions and green house gas metrics, building a long-term understanding of environmental value.

Global Reach, Local Relevance

The 2025 trial season includes work across a wide range of crops and locations, from wheat and strawberries in China to canola in Western Canada, along with new sites in the United States and Europe testing corn, wheat, and other key crops. These diverse environments help us understand how our technologies perform under different climatic, soil, and management conditions.

Lucent Bio’s bioactivated nutrient delivery technology is designed to work in partnership with soil biology, releasing nutrients as crops need them. This approach supports consistent performance across a wide variety of soil types, making our solutions resilient to environmental variability.

As William Jiang shared, regional validation matters. What succeeds in one geography may behave differently elsewhere. That’s why our approach is built on testing broadly and learning locally, ensuring that every recommendation we make is rooted in real performance data.

Innovating for Climate-Smart Agriculture

Lucent Bio’s 2025 Field Trial program is building a foundation of evidence behind every product we bring to market. By focusing on measurable results, agronomic fit, and climate-smart outcomes, we are creating tools growers need to thrive in a changing agricultural landscape.
