The Subsurface Solution

Why the Future of Climate Tech is Under Your Boots

While the summers grow hotter, and the world looks for climate solutions on World Environment Day, the most powerful technology for global restoration is actually beneath our boots. At Lucent Bio, we call it The Subsurface Solution. Amidst the environmental chaos, we know that this living infrastructure, the soil microbiome, is key to global restoration.

The Starving Soil Crisis

In a world facing the climate crisis, we need to act fast. The effects of climate change are impacting us now; from hotter, longer summers, to widespread floods that impact crop growth. Within this, our food security is at risk. From the food that we grow for our own families, to the families across the world. If we do not act, food insecurity will undoubtedly increase, crops will fail to grow as strong, and our soil will be too weak to store carbon.

Soil degradation goes hand-in-hand with the climate crisis. As soil health reduces, so does its ability to act as a carbon sink.
Traditional synthetic fertilizers have inadvertently played a role in this cycle—contributing to nutrient leaching, chemical tie-up, and the gradual weakening of the soil’s natural resilience.

A Climate-Smart Future

We cannot solve the climate crisis without mastering the microbiology of our soil. It is the very engine that stores carbon, filters our water, and provides the nutritional foundation for the global food system.

At Lucent Bio, we are doing exactly this. Working towards a future where soil is healthy, and where our food systems can store carbon and feed our families. The future of ag does not need to remain stuck within traditional synthetic methods. We have the tools and technology to move past this, and foster a climate-smart world.

Turning Soil into a Climate Asset

Lucent Bio provides the technology to turn soil into a high-performance climate asset. With key findings highlighted in our blog, From Lab to Loaf, Lucent Bio published a peer-reviewed paper in the Open Journal of Soil Science. In this study, the impact of our plant-based delivery system is measurable. It was found that crops fed with Soileos did more than just grow—they thrived in a system that:
Boosted Microbial Biomass: Increasing the "living" component of the soil.
Enhanced Carbon Sequestration: Turning crop nutrition into a vehicle for carbon storage.
Minimized Waste: Virtually eliminating the leaching and tie-up common with conventional salts.

A Mission for Microbiome Day

With Microbiome Day coming up fast, we want to emphasize the global need to shift towards sustainable, climate-smart fertilizers that not only nourishes the soil, but increases carbon storage. By prioritizing the soil microbiome, we are nurturing the soil for generations to come.

Lucent Bio is proud to lead the charge in creating a food system that is resilient and hopeful.
