How Climate-Smart Crop Nutrition Supports Global Food Security

Lucent Bio’s 2025 field trials are designed to demonstrate how performance, sustainability, and ROI can align in real-world agriculture.

As demand for food and fertilizer intensifies, three crops rise to the top of global importance: canola, wheat and corn. These staples drive food systems, support international markets, and require strategic nutrient management to thrive in changing climates.

Lucent Bio is dedicated to understanding exactly what these crops need, and how Soileos can meet those needs through a climate-smart, soil-first approach.

Feeding the Future

Canola, wheat and corn are fundamental to global food security.

  • Canola is a leading source of vegetable oil, plant-based protein biodiesel fuelstock, supporting both food systems and renewable energy markets
  • Wheat feeds over a third of the global population and is a primary source of calories, flour, and dietary protein worldwide
  • Corn underpins global food, feed, and fuel systems used for human consumption, animal feed, industrial products, and ethanol production.

Lucent Bio is putting their innovations to the test, evaluating how micronutrients like boron, copper, and zinc impact yield response, and soil compatibility across multiple geographies and soil profiles.

Where Traditional Fertilizers Fall Short

Traditional fertilizers struggle to deliver consistent value across real-world conditions. Key challenges include:

  • Poor availability: Micronutrients bind quickly in the soil, making them inaccessible to crops
  • Runoff and leaching: Soluble forms may wash away before uptake, creating environmental risks
  • Lack of precision: Many products ignore crop-specific needs and regional variability

Soileos Takes a Different Approach

Engineered to work with soil biology, it delivers bioactivated, crop-available nutrition over time, reducing losses, enhancing uptake, and supporting soil health.

What We’re Measuring In The Field

Our 2025 Trials track performance across over 30 sites worldwide, measuring:

  • Nutrient uptake
  • Yield improvements and economic return
  • Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) and microbial response
  • verified GHG emission reductions

For example, canola trials show up to 8.0 tCO₂e reduced per tonne of Soileos applied, thanks to enhanced nutrient efficiency and improved biomass return to soil.

Climate-Smart Strategies That Work for Growers

Lucent Bio’s agronomic approach is built around practical rates, local fit, and clear recommendations that reflect both ROI and environmental value.

Whether improving pod fill in canola, enhancing protein in wheat, or strengthening early corn stands, our goal remains the same: deliver solutions growers can count on - nutritionally, economically, and ecologically.

Grow With Confidence

Each datapoint from our 2025 field trials helps build tools that support resilient agriculture, profitable acres, and a healthier planet. Lucent Bio is advancing the future of crop nutrition on trial, one crop, on insight at a time.
